① 第四纪孢粉学: 通过海洋、湖泊、沼泽沉积物和现代表土的孢粉分析,揭示地质历史时期的古植被与古气候,强调古植被和古气候的定量重建和异常气候事件的研究。
②炭屑分析与森林火灾:通过湖泊和沼泽沉积物的现代和化石炭屑分析,重建地方性和地区性森林火灾史,探讨影响森林火灾形成机理和影响因素。
③历史气候学:通过分析历史文献记录的气候资料和地质记录的气候代用指标,探讨历史时期中国气候变化的规律及其成因,强调异常气候事件如台风活动和旱涝灾害及其在全球暖化背景下的变化趋势的研究。
④古气候模拟和诊断:利用气候模拟探讨古气候变化的成因机制。研究工作主要涉及外在气候驱动力如太阳辐射、火山活动等对季风气候的年际、年代际及百年尺度变化的影响。
研究区域:我国青藏高原、云贵高原、长江中下游地区、东北、华南、南海及美国墨西哥湾和大西洋沿岸地区等。
Thematic:
- Quaternary palynology: Pollen analysis of sediments from ocean, lake, marsh, and soil to reveal past vegetation and climate, especially their quantitative reconstructions and extreme events.
- Charcoal analysis and forest fires: Charcoal analysis of sediments from lake and marsh to reconstruct local and regional forest fire histories and reveal the mechanisms of forest fires.
- Historical climatology: The analyses of climatic data from historical documents and climatic proxies from geological records to study spatiotemporal patterns and causes of climate change in China during historical periods, emphasizing the studies of abnormal climatic events such as typhoons, droughts and floods and their changing trends in the context of global warming.
- Paleoclimate simulation and diagnosis: Using simulated data of climate models to study the mechanisms of climate changes, mainly involving the influence of external climatic driving forcings on the interannual, decadal and centennial scale variation of monsoon climate.
Regional: Tibetan Plateau, Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Northeast China, South China Sea, U.S. Gulf coast and Atlantic coast
